Reassembling the Statue

ca. 1885 – 1886

The French frigate Isère arrived in New York Harbor on June 19, 1885, with the Statue of Liberty’s frame and skin packed in 214 crates. Each crate was hauled to the top of the pedestal in preparation for reassembly.
